History Through Hands-On Sustainability
Through collaboration, my teammate and I designed a modular Levi’s x Olympus Thread pop-up that explores the shared history of Levi’s and Sashiko through hands-on experiences, murals focused on creativity and sustainability.
Using Sketchup, I was responsible for developing the overall spatial concept and structure, which included the brainstorming and creation of the popup space, and integrating various workshops and interactive elements throughout the space. My partners focused on the remaining visual branding and digital experiential components of the pop-up.
The Ins & Outs
Floor Plan
The popup features a modular, open-floor plan designed for quick and easy setup, breakdown, and transportation. The structure expands outward with foldable walls, allowing the space to triple in size while keeping storage, merchandise, and crafting stations integrated into the build.
Materials
Reclaimed wood, concrete, and a repurposed shipping container reinforce the popup’s focus on sustainability while showcasing the creative possibilities of up-cycling.
The Stitch N’ Style Popup!
Exterior
The exterior is built around a repurposed shipping container, creating a portable and sustainable foundation for the popup. Movable doors and expandable wall panels allow the space to open outward extending to three times its original size!
Work Shops
The workshop space is designed around compactability, everything has its place. Attached crafting stations, movable tables, and wall-mounted storage maximize the space while keeping materials easily accessible. The embroidery station uses a folding split-wall system that allows the machines to stay in place during setup and breakdown, making the workshops efficient while maintaining the popup’s modular design.
DIGITAL INTERACTIONS
Levi’s Snapshot Through Time
The Levi’s Snapshot Through Time gives visitors a casual, informational activity they can engage with or simply watch while relaxing in the bean bag corner. Creating a low-pressure way to learn about the history of Levis while waiting for your friend to finish up her mending.
The digital instructions walks visitors through how to use the machines. It makes the complex machine more approachable by helping users learn the process independently while creating their own embroidery designs.
